Let’s talk tools.

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we believe in using tools that work effectively with your canine companion, rather than against them. As advocates for positive training methods, we endorse certain tools that can aid in the training process. It is your responsibility as the owner of your companion to purchase these tools. While we occasionally have excess tools available on our "giving wall" for gifting purposes, it is recommended that you have your own tools if they are not available for gifting.

We are committed to providing guidance and recommendations on the appropriate tools to use for your dog's training needs. Our team can assist you in selecting the right tools and provide instructions on their proper usage during training sessions.

Please feel free to reach out to us for further information or clarification on the recommended tools for your companion.

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we prioritize the use of flat collars for our companions. A flat collar is a collar that does not have the ability to cinch, tighten, or exert force on your dog's neck. We do not endorse the use of cinch collars, prong collars, chain collars, or martingale collars.

Instead, we recommend using flat collars that are comfortable and safe for your dog. These collars are designed to provide a secure fit without causing discomfort or unnecessary pressure on your companion's neck.

By using flat collars, we promote positive and humane training methods that focus on building a strong bond and effective communication between you and your dog. If you have any questions or need assistance in selecting the right collar for your companion, our team is here to help.

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we have introduced a new tool called the "PAWS'itive Leader," which is a custom-made head collar created in collaboration with Oliver and Ash Designs of Grass Valley. This head collar is designed to replace the previously recommended "gentle leader" by PetSafe.

The PAWS'itive Leader offers several advantages over the previous recommendation. It is constructed with biothane, a waterproof material that is easy to clean and does not collect mildew or retain odors. The collar is also durable and flexible like fabric, providing both comfort and longevity.

One of the key improvements of the PAWS'itive Leader is its design. Unlike the previous head collars, which often experienced issues such as jammed plastic parts, breakage, or difficulties with proper fitting, the PAWS'itive Leader has been specifically crafted to address these concerns. It offers a better fit and has undergone rigorous testing to ensure its durability, even for the most challenging and strong dogs.

To order the PAWS'itive Leader for your companion, you can click on the provided link and follow the instructions. The price for the PAWS'itive Leader is $40.

We believe that using the right tools can contribute to effective and humane training methods, and we are proud to offer the PAWS'itive Leader as an improved alternative for head collars.

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we highly recommend using a 6-foot lead without force and encourage you to avoid using retractable leashes. We believe that having control over your companion is essential during training, and a standard 6-foot lead allows for better communication and management.

To provide you with a high-quality lead option, we have collaborated with Oliver and Ash Designs of Grass Valley to create the "Eurolead." This lead is designed to suit any lifestyle and offers superior functionality and durability.

The Eurolead is a versatile lead that can be easily adjusted and used in a hands-free manner, allowing you to have a more comfortable and convenient experience while training and interacting with your companion. It promotes a positive and controlled walking experience, enabling you to gradually transition to off-leash skills and rely on voice commands.

To order your Eurolead, simply click on the provided link and follow the instructions. The price for the Eurolead is $50.

By using a reliable and well-designed lead like the Eurolead, you can enhance your training sessions and strengthen the bond with your companion while ensuring their safety and your control.

PetSAFE BARk Collar

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we generally advocate for training methods that prioritize communication, understanding, and positive reinforcement between you and your companion. We believe that developing the skills to interpret your companion's behavior and redirect them through effective verbal commands is the ideal approach.

However, we understand that there may be situations where excessive barking needs to be addressed, especially when you are not able to actively train or supervise your companion around the clock. In such cases, we recognize the effectiveness of the PetSafe Bark Collar as a tool for addressing barking behavior.

If you choose to use the PetSafe Bark Collar, we recommend taking precautions to prevent false activations due to jangling tags. You can tape up the dog tags to ensure that the collar accurately detects and corrects barking behavior.

The PetSafe Bark Collar operates automatically, delivering progressive corrections through beeps, vibrations, and static corrections similar to what you might experience at a chiropractor. The collar is designed to reset itself if barking persists through the correction series.

While the PetSafe Bark Collar can be effective in addressing problematic barking, we want to emphasize that it is not our first choice or preferred method of training. We believe that fostering open communication and understanding between you and your companion is the foundation of successful training. However, when necessary, we may utilize the PetSafe Bark Collar as a temporary measure for addressing excessive barking concerns in our facility.

Please remember that proper training and behavioral modification techniques should always be the primary focus in addressing any behavioral issues, including excessive barking.

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we understand that there may be situations where you need assistance in managing your companion's mouth control. In such cases, we recommend using a basket muzzle as it allows your companion to perform essential actions like panting, drinking, and licking their lips for stress release.

The Baskerville Ultra brand is one that we trust and utilize at our facility. Baskerville Ultra basket muzzles are designed to provide a comfortable fit while still allowing your companion to engage in natural behaviors. They have a secure design that prevents biting or chewing while providing ample space for your companion's muzzle.

It's important to note that not all dogs require muzzles, but if you find it necessary to use one for the safety and well-being of your companion and others around them, we recommend choosing a basket muzzle like the Baskerville Ultra brand. This ensures that your companion can still engage in important behaviors while being appropriately managed.

If you have specific concerns or questions about using a muzzle for your companion, we encourage you to reach out to us for further guidance and assistance.

At PAWS'itive Pals Dog Training, we allow the use of harnesses for your companions, and it is a requirement for any new pal weighing over 70lbs. We understand that harnesses can provide additional control and comfort for your dog. However, it's important to ensure that the harness you choose is properly fitted and does not restrict your companion with excessive pressure.

If you decide to use a harness, we recommend selecting one that is appropriately sized and fitted to your companion's body shape and size. It should allow for comfortable movement and should not cause any discomfort or restriction when worn. Our handlers are available to assist you in choosing and fitting the right harness for your companion. Feel free to ask them for guidance and support.

By using a well-fitted harness, you can maintain control over your companion while ensuring their comfort and safety. If you have any questions or need further assistance in selecting a harness, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team. We're here to help you make the best choice for your companion's needs.

If you have an overly anxious companion, we recommend considering the use of a Thundershirt. The Thundershirt is designed to provide gentle, constant pressure to your dog's body, similar to the way swaddling a baby can provide comfort. This pressure has been known to help calm anxiety, fear, and over-excitement in dogs. Additionally, wearing a Thundershirt can encourage your companion to exhibit more confident body posture.

The Thundershirt can be a helpful tool in managing your dog's anxiety-related issues. It is designed to be safe, comfortable, and easy to put on and take off. The pressure it provides has a calming effect on many dogs and can help them feel more secure in stressful situations.

If you believe that your companion could benefit from a Thundershirt, we encourage you to give it a try. However, it's always a good idea to consult with a veterinarian or a professional trainer to determine the most appropriate approach for managing your dog's anxiety. They can provide personalized advice and guidance based on your dog's specific needs.

Remember, the Thundershirt is just one tool among many that can be used to address anxiety in dogs. It's important to combine it with other management techniques, training, and behavioral modification strategies to help your companion overcome their anxiety and lead a happier, more relaxed life.
